Happy Spring Equinox!

We are stepping out of the Winter season and stepping into the light.  Well, except for in the morning right now, it’s still pretty dark.  With this time change also comes the Spring Equinox,  a time of rebirth and renewal. It is a wonderful time to set meaningful intentions for this next season.

Recently, I started observing the “Wheel of the Year”.  The Wheel of the Year is an ancient calendar that has been used by many cultures for centuries. It is a representation of the cyclical nature of time, the changing of the seasons, and the movement of the sun and moon.

Observing the natural order of the seasons really resonates with me, just like the moon’s cycle. Following the cyclical nature of time and the changing seasons can bring great peace and tranquility to our souls. I feel more in alignment with the season, the earth, and of time itself.

For the Spring Equinox, 3 of my favorite ways to celebrate this time are:

Setting New Intentions for the Spring Season

As we emerge from the inwardness that the Winter season brings, we begin to step out more into the world, becoming more active and social.  Setting some intentions centering around that and what you desire is a great way to focus on the things you really want, rather than just coasting through life with no direction in mind.

Create a Nature Mandala

This will be a new practice for me to try but having a nice space to create something  beautiful in your backyard or front yard is a great way to be out in nature, bare feet on the ground (recall that bare feet directly on the ground is a great way to restore the electrical connection with the Earth and the benefits helps to reduce inflammation, improve sleep and immune function, just to name a few) and just be.  Sitting with your morning cup of coffee or tea for some early morning sun and the practice of making a Mandala also promotes your creativity.

Here’s how to make one:

  • Venture outdoors to a natural area like the woods, beach, or local park.

  • Gather natural items to make your mandala, such as leaves, flower petals, sticks, rocks, grass, pinecones, pine needles, feathers, sand, shells, soil, etc.

  • Find an open area to work.

Organize Your Home

This is a great practice as we accumulate things over the course of the year. Having a practice or ritual of “clearing out the clutter” or “organizing” can bring a great sense of peace.  How do you feel when there is clutter everywhere? For me, I feel on edge and the opposite of peaceful.  However, I’m a busy mom and wife with a husband and teenage kid so clutter inevitably happens, but my intention and desire is to have things as organized and clutter free as possible.

Which 3 Spring Equinox rituals resonate with you the most? Which ones are you excited to try?
